While Alexis was off in Jersey in search of record shops and Latin music, I was following a YouTube trail of classic salsa that led me to discover Piper Pimienta, the singer of so many songs I love, who I never knew by name.

He can dance, he can sing, and he collaborated with and was part of classic Colombian groups including the Latin Brothers, Fruko y sus Tesos, the Colombia All Stars, and more.

Here is a little Piper, and some other classic salsa and more to warm you up.

The Latin Brothers, “Las Caleñas son como las Flores” (Colombia)

The Latin Brothers, “Dale al Bombo” (Colombia)

Colombia All Stars f. Piper Pimienta, “Cañaveral” (Colombia)

Hector Lavoe, “Juanito Alimaña” (Puerto Rico)

Ruben Blades, “Pedro Navaja” (Panama)

Oscar De Leon, “Llorarás” (Venezuela)

* PLUS *

A little cumbia with the Latin Brothers and Piper: “A la Loma de la Cruz” (awesome) & some more salsa with Joe Arroyo and Fruko, and another Colombian classic:

Fruko y sus Tesos, “A la Memoria del Muerto” ゲット [DL]
