This post is long overdue. A couple of weeks ago I went to see DJ Donna Summer at an event here called Murder Channel Vol. 22. In addition to the DJs, live bands, like local punk/noise stars Melt-Banana, also played. There were mosh pits, and my friend’s bag burst open onto the floor after being smashed into. The moshers politely avoided the little area until we’d picked everything up.

Donna Summer played a super high-speed set that was at times pretty incredible, and just a little too much at times, too. If you took your mind or body off the beat for just a moment, the music sounded deceptively like typical hyper-speed techno, but delving into it was rewarding.

I was working till midnight and so missed some of the other artists I wanted to see, like Himuro Yoshiteru.

The show was at the famous Star Pine’s Cafe in Kichijoji, one of the Tokyo’s most fun and interesting areas, about 20 minutes west of Shinjuku. I wanted to mention this the day after the event but I started writing this post and didn’t remember I’d started it until today.
