i’ve been digging indie sonidera recently.  steve linked me to los wendys a few weeks back and i just discovered that are a part of a collective of digi-cumbia bands out of DF called “la super cumbia futurista“:

¨ La Super Cumbia Futurista¨ was born in 2005 as an experimental Mexican collective which combines the popular flavor with the contemporary electronic sound of México City. This collective joins all kinds of exponents: musicians, designers, composers and agrupations of all types of sorts, from popular to intelectual, from digital to artistic in order to create a very peculiar musical ¨collage ¨ texture that speaks about our city and its people, politics, transportation system, our ecological status, the color of our markets and the street sounds and noises that sorrounds us… In this collective, we try to integrate… cultural elements from the past with the new culture that we currently live in our country, making a new futuristic musical vision and rescuing some pure mexican aesthetic styles as well as old fashion artistic movements that are now being replaced by the influence of other countries and cultures, as can be seen in music and films nowadays.

i have been listening to a lot of these bands courtesy of king of the surf and the sound is melodic, unironic, chilled out, and informed.  very post-señor coconut mexican electro.  very cool.  i’m really glad that there seem to be a lot of global nodes where parties and collectives are thriving by creating these type of lovely temporal and sonic connections.
